Sir Alf's team
And with Bowen, Fornals, Lanzini & Fredericks on the bench we have options to make reasonable changes, apart from if Antonio does'nt start or gets injured.

Goose - That's what I though but then Moyes said he should be OK.

So that rule must be black and white, so he's either out or not do must be something else

Re: Team for Sheffield Utd
Russ - of course they're trying to get out of relegation and busting a gut to do so. They don't look like a team that believe they're gone .. Even though it's almost certain it isn't quite there.

i dont think he gets a choice - if you go off for concussion you aren't allowed to play for a certain number of days.

Whats up with fucking Diop now? His head still got a boo boo after coming off worst in a clash of heads with the biggest glove wearing fanny in the league Martial or what?

So one in the league then.

Manuel,

Charlton
Hull
Wolves
Doncaster

All convincing wins.

Re: Team for Sheffield Utd
We spanked Wolves at home earlier on in the season but a lot of that was down to how bad they were (hope you liked that cliche!).

Hope you're right about tonight.

Re: Team for Sheffield Utd
When was the last time we played well at home and had a convincing win, has there even been one this season? If we are going to start rolling out cliches like I'm seeing below then how about we are due a convincing home performance? Or another cliche score first to knock the stuffing out of them? I fancy us tonight.

Rice and Soucek are the backbone of our team, we should never purposely weaken that.

Re: Team for Sheffield Utd
One positive is that we won’t have to see Yarmalenko up front again.

Bowen would do a better job stretching the opposition.

If Diop and Balbuenna are both unavailable maybe rice will drop back there?

Fornals to partner soucek?

Re: Team for Sheffield Utd
I am guessing ( hoping ) Diop will be ok as Moyes was saying he was and was challenging him to step up and take the opportunity. He does look the least brave of our CBs unfortunately and cannot say I have ever seen him throw his body in line of a shot like Ogbonna and Dawson do every game? Also seems weak in the aerial challenge. Add to that we have conceded a few times with him losing his marker or getting under the flight of the ball and missing it.

Other than that he's brilliant :-) Maybe its concentration levels ? Hard to know as we don't watch him in training or talk to him. The coaching team ( Alan Irvine leads the defensive side I think although teh likes of Pearce and Nolan have input I think I read ) have hopefully been working hard on him. The advantage he has over our other CBs is a bit of pace, not super quick but quicker than the others. Might be useful as that Oliver Burke ( not Berk unfortunately ) is fairly quick.

Anyway, if anyone thinks this is going to be a stroll they will be in for a shock. Sheff Utd may well dominate possession even but what is for sure is like Fulham, WBA and a few others we have squeaked past, it will be tough I would think?

Another example to see, with one of the mainstays of the team missing ( Oggy ) , if Moyesiah can continue to ensure we do not return to "flaky" West Ham and lose teh game against a team fighting for survival. The great Ancelloti's Everton fell foul to it last night.

I would prefer the back 3 to give Diop more protection first game back and reward Johnson for a fine performance last time out but suspect it will be Moyes preferred 4 in defence.

---------------------- Fab
Coufal Diop Dawson Cresswell Johnson
----------- Rice --------- Soucek ------------------
------ Lingard ----------- Benrahma
------------------ Antonio ------------------------------

They are gone. They are not trying to get out of relegation. Its a dead cert.

But with that comes playing with no pressure. They have nothing to lose. And when you play with no pressure you do play better.

I feel we are on the wane. Players have lost form and injuries and little niggles are starting to take hold.

I will be absolutely flabbergasted if we win tonight.

Sheff Utd have looked decent, they won at Man u and are fighting for their lives, this was never ever a stroll in the park.

Re: Team for Sheffield Utd
Goes to show, every fan I know said we had a wafer thin squad but not management and certainly not GSB! Perhaps we weren't so lucky avoiding injuries for most of the season, others took their eye off of what was obvious. Suddenly tonights game is not a stroll in the park, if it ever was?

fraser 9:49 Mon Feb 15
Re: Team for Sheffield Utd
I thought Diop would be fit as he's either concussed or not and Moyes said not.. Has he picked up another injury?

fraser 9:48 Mon Feb 15
Re: Team for Sheffield Utd
I can't see him dropping Coufal into a back three if Diop is fit.

Surely he would have done that first last game.

Think we'll stay 4 at the back against them, no need for 5.

Re: Team for Sheffield Utd
Antonio, diop and balbuena all have fitness tests today.

If all three of them are out the team and match day squad will be interesting. I suspect Moyes wouldn't risk that Alves fella in a back four, so he will revert to a back three with wing backs. Something like this:

GK - Fabianski

RWB - Fredericks
LWB - Johnson
RCB - Coufal
CB - Dawson
LCB - Cresswell

CM - Rice
CM - Soucek

FW - Lingard
FW - Bowen
FW - Benrahma (though I'd prefer Fornals)

Bench

Martin
Alves
Lanzini
Odubeko
?
?
?

Looks like it could be two keepers on the bench with two more youngsters. Baptiste and Harrison?

A few injuries really exposes our WAFER THIN squad.

Walcott? Fucking hell, he's way more than just pace, ffs. Lennon only winged it for so long, which I suppose proves my point.
